I just finished building a computer, but it won't turn on. When the PSU is powered on and the lead is connected to the mobo it beeps quickly, and shows no signs of power. I tested the PSU on another computer and it worked fine with no odd beeping. And it's the PSU beeping, not the mobo.

Parts: Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Mobo,
Ultra LSP550 PSU
8GB Corsair XMS2 RAM
AMD Phenom II X4 955

Welcome to computersOC! Smile

Do you have both connectors plugged into the motherboard, and one or two plugged into your video card?

Do any fans spin up?

Unhook everything and unscrew the motherboard from the case. Start over and hook everything back up but this time with minimal items. No extra pci cards, only one RAM stick, etc.

I took everything out of the case and removed the unneccasary components, even with all of them attached it works outside the case. I'm assuming this means that the case was shorting the motherboard out.

It's possible. Sometimes taking the motherboard out and putting it back in will help, some cable could have been overlooked or a part might not have agreed with the setup.
